Laurence Rockefeller commisioned architect Robert Trent Jones to build a championship golf course on the coastal black lava 30 minutes north of Kona airport on 'The Big Island' in Hawaii. The brief was to build a course tough enough to test the professionals, but picturesque enough to bring in the tourists.
Mauna Kea is that course!
The third is the standout hole at Mauna Kea- and one of the most spectacuar in all of golf!
An all ocean carry par 3, the championship tee measures 272 yards!!
Even the regular mens tees require a 210 yard tee shot...
With gusty sea breezes in play, and white caps rolling in- it's a fantastic golf hole!
