Sawtell Golf Club was established in 1946, and is located just 500 metres from Sawtell Village near Coffs Harbour
The course occupies undulating terrain with the Middle Arm Creek meandering through the site
A feature of the site is the magnificent gum trees, which frame the fairways and direct traffic
Like many other northern NSW courses the clubhouse and opening and closing holes are positioned on a centrally located hill
At Sawtell the greens for holes 2, 5, 9 & 18 are up on the hill near the clubhouse- as well as the tees for holes 1, 3, 6, 10 & 10
Sawtell is a lovely place to play golf
Notable holesinclude:
- hole 1, a pretty downhill par 4 with the fairway framed with gum trees
- hole 6, a nice par 4 from an elevated tee to a nicely bunkered green
- hole 7, a different type of par 3 with two mature gum trees protecting the line to the green
- hole 8, an epic par 5 which arcs up and around the creek on it’s left, and then down to a green nestled in the trees
- hole 9, a short uphill dogleg par 4 with the elevated green set high on the hill
- hole 18, another uphill par 4 with an elevated green- it’s a strong hole
Sawtell is not a championship course.
Rather it is a picturesque local course with some interesting holes
It is also nicely maintained and with it's friendly atmosphere is ideal as a starting venue for any golfing trips to Coffs Harbour and the surrounding areas
