welcome to italy

Italy is considered the birthplace of western civilisation and is famous for its culture, art, fashion, religion, and iconic food and wine.

Pizza and sangiovese, anyone?

Italy is also home to 51 UNESCO World Heritage sites- the most of any country- and is home to some of the most famous cities in the world- Rome, Venice, Florence, Turin, Milan...
Any trip to Italy would also cover Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Como & Verona.

Romeo, Romeo, where art thou Romeo?

Whether it be high fashion, fast cars, soccer, opera, religion- Italy has plenty to offer the Travelling Golfer...and then there is the golf!

Golf in Italy

Like it's neighbouring countries in continental Europe, Italy has never been known for it's golf. This is in part because the country is so famous for so many other things. But there is good golf throughout the country if you know where to look. Initially Italian golf was heavily influenced by the British and indeed many of the early courses had an english parkland feel. Often rated as the best in the country La Betulle at Biella was designed by englishman John Morrison and set the standard for many years. It is a lovely place to stay and play and has hosted many tournaments over the years. Another of the earlier courses to gain attention was Menaggio & Cadenabbia near Lake Como. Originally a nine hole course designed by the legendary J.H. Taylor, the redesign years later and conversion to an 18 course was overseen by Englishman John Harris. Menaggio has hosted many a championship, and although by modern standards it is very short, it has a lot of appeal.

In recent years golf developments have changed the landscape somewhat with a number of resort courses popping up- the best of which is probably Catiglion de Bosco in Tuscany, designed by Tom Weiskopf.
Italy has now been appointed as host for the Ryder Cup in the year 2022, so golf in Italy is going to have a higher profile going forward..
