El Pinar GC

El Pinar GCEl Pinar GC

El Pinar GC is located across the road from the Los Alamos hotel in El Calafate, Argentina.

The course dates from 1997 and construction was overseen by champion Argentinian golfer Roberto de Vincenza

El Pinar GC- a small botanical garden with tees and greensEl Pinar GC- a small botanical garden with tees and greens

It is a par 3 course occupying perhaps 7 acres- with 18 holes using only 5 greens (formally 6- but one is now out of action), 18 different tees, and a lot of imagination.

Holes vary in length from 70 to 250 yards long

Many of the holes were routed over or around mature trees and one can only surmise that the trees were not as big in 1997!

There are some quite interesting green complexes and nice use  is made of the natural contours of the site

The property is like a large backyard, or small botanical garden with a lot of lovely trees, and pins and tees tucked in all over the place.

We had 3 groups playing the course at the same time, and it's bedlam....

Quite a number of the trees are mature and only those with high ball flights will be able to carry them

El Pinar GC- tee shots must carry and go around mature trees..El Pinar GC- tee shots must carry and go around mature trees..

It was the most bizarre golf course I have seen, but we had great fun anyway..

However it is definitely the best course in El Calafate (and the only one!)
