History
De Lage Vuursche GC is a private members club located near Utrecht in The Netherlands
Founding members first started applying for permits in 1985 but it took until the year 2000 before Kyle Phillips unveiled his modern masterpiece
Phillips had been working for Robert Trent Jones Jnr when he first worked on the property but when things got serious and plans for the course came together he was working under his own banner. His work around the world is now famous- Kingsbarns, South Cape, Yas Links & more... And his work in The Netherlands is making an impact with a remodelling of Hilversum deemed a success and his latest venture at Bernardus Golf & Memories about to host the KLM Dutch Open
Course
Phillips started with flat farmland and eventually produced a low lying landscape of rolling fairways intertwined with expanses of water- in fact water is in play on 12 holes.
There is an emphasis on accuracy off the tee with a combination of water and bunkers tightening up the landing areas.
And off the back tees Lage Vuursche plays up to 6900 yards- certainly a test suitable for championship golf...
Notable holes include:
- hole 5, a tricky par with water threatening both the tee shot and approach
- hole 14, a mid length par 3 over water
- hole 15, a medium length par 4 with water in play for both the tee shot and approach
- hole 18 a strong par 4 with water protecting the right side all the way to the green
Lage Vuursche is considered one of the best 10 courses in The Netherlands.
