Montgomerie Links GCMontgomerie Links GC

It was Friday 23 November 2012. We had arrived into Danang from Melbourne late Thursday night and here we were at Montgomerie Links preparing to play golf early in the morning.
I must admit though, that the balmy 30 plus degree day, and the 4 hour time difference did soften the blow somewhat...

Montgomerie Links (designed by Colin Montgomerie) had been rated the best course in Vietnam in earlier years, and one of the best in Asia.
The course has a character all of it's own - I could not readily compare it to anything I had seen.

Montgomerie Links is built in sand in the vicinity, but not adjacent to the magnificent beach.

Water features prominently on a number of holes - some of the water holes were quite spectacular- and more than a little intimidating!

The back nine was more heavily bunkered and appeared to play longer (maybe I was tiring in the heat?).

The greens were interesting with significant movement - but not to the point of being excessive

I really liked the fact that the course included a couple of short par 4's where a player could choose to take on the bunkers and water or lay up and have a short iron in.

Perhaps the only query I could raise on the strategic merit of the course was that a couple of the longer par 4's had very tight approaches.

Overall I was very impressed by Montgomerie Links.

The many Casuarina trees gave it a unique look and I found the course both challenging and fun to play.

Plus, all the services were excellent.

I hope to go back again soon!
