Things to do in Queenstown
Skiing or snowboarding, jet boating, white water rafting, bungy jumping, mountain biking, skateboarding, tramping ( hiking ), paragliding, sky diving, and fly fishing are all popular.
It is a major centre for snow sports and with four main mountain ski fields, people come from far and wide to hit the slopes.
And the tramping ( New Zealand for hiking ) is world class with The Millford Track, and the Routeburn Track considered by many to be as good as it gets- with luxury lodges available overnight on well maintained tracks through thrilling scenery.
The town itself is always full of life with so many international visitors, and different activities. There is a nice selection of shopping available and a large variety of accommodation and dining options to suit every budget.
Milford Sound is a major tourism destination to the south, and can be accessed from Quenstown by car ( 4 hours ), light plane, or helicopter.
Queenstown airport is well located just minutes from town and provides a relatively quick and pain free entry or departure compared to other airports.

Golf in Queenstown
Queenstown currently boasts five golf courses of note: (click on highlighted link for more information on each course)
- Kelvin Heights (Queenstown GC)
Wanaka GC is also only an hour away...
Jack's Point has the most spectacular setting, with a number of holes set hard against Lake Wakatipu with the enormous Remarkable Mountain range as a backdrop. It is good golf course which photographs up particularly well. You may need to play this one twice!
The Hills is a private course owned by jeweller Michael Hills which hosts the New Zealand Open. It is an expensive game if you can get access but combines a really good test of golf with wonderful scenery, and some of the most amazing art seen on any course in the world.
Arrowtown GC is a personal favourite. The local members course sited near The Hills and the old mining town of Arrowtown is short, quirky, has no bunkers on the course, and twists and turns through rocky valleys. It is a delight- dont miss it!
Millbrook Resort is one of the best places to stay in the area, and has 27 holes of golf within the resort. The three different nines are quite different with early Bob Charles designs constrasting with newer holes by Turner McPherson. I love staying at Millbrook. The place has a lovely feel to it, and offers quality dining options to complement the different accommodation options available.
Kelvin Heights Golf Course, also known as Queenstown Golf Club is also an option. It is located on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the lake, and offers gorgeous views of the surrounding lake and mountains.
