History
Picciolo Etna Golf Club was established in 1989, and was the first 18 hole course in Sicily.
The course was designed by renowned architect Luigi Rota Caremoli.
Championships
Picciolo Etna Golf Club has hosted five Open championships, the Sicilian Ladies Open and the European Senior Open.
Course
The course covers a mere 44 hectares of heavily treed, hilly terrain.
At 5870 metres off the tips Picciolo Etna is a short course that requires a restrained and strategic approach.
Or not!
While the course is not overly long, it is very tight in places and will reward a player who plots their way around.
Notable holes include:
- hole 4, a short uphill par 4 with a very narrow landing area
- hole 7, a longish par 5 which doglegs right twice to make it to the green
- hole 8, a pretty par 3 carved out of the bushes (see pic top of page)
- hole 10, a long strong par 3
- hole 11, a remarkably tight par 4 dogleg with water in play.
Picciolo Etna Golf Club is a short, tight course that will test any golfer's ability to plot their way through a round.
You will need to swallow your pride and take a shorter more conservative approach on quite a number of holes.
It's great fun!
