Spring City - The Mountain Course
Jack Nicklaus designed the Mountain course which was completed in 1998 . Sited further from the main Lake , the Mountain course is routed through valleys and around small mountain top lakes , in somewhat gentler terrain than that of the Lake course . The course has consistently been rated 2nd best in China behind it's sister course - The Lake Course.
You know what to expect with a Nicklaus course , and the Mountain course is no exception . Nicklaus courses are always high level - beautifully maintained , well routed and strategically strong .
Although there were no spectacular skyline greens , this is just a gorgeous golfing site , with a plethora of colourful native vegetation framing the holes , plenty of elevation change to maintain interest , some eye candy with the mountain lakes , and some lovely strategic bunkering . If one was to be critical of Jack one might say that his course has a certain sameness with the linear nature of his green and bunker designs , and perhaps that lack of innovation that the elite architects display from time to time.
Still I would play this course anytime , and prefer it to the Lake Course
A must play
