Golf at Casa de Campo started with the opening of Pete Dye's wonderful Teeth of the Dog course in 1971.
With seven handcrafted holes right on the coastline the course was an instant success.
In 1974 Dye's Links course opened, followed by La Romana in 1974.
Dye Fore was the last of the courses designed by Pete Dye, opening in 2005.
Both La Romana and Dye Fore are 27 hole courses, with three loops of nine holes.
Pete Dye designed over 200 golf courses internationally including:
- PGA West Staduim Course
- La Quinta Resort- The Dunes Course & The Mountain Course
- TPC at Sawgrass
- Crooked Stick GC
- Colleton River Plantation, Dye Course
- Harbour Town Golf Links
- Kiawah Island Golf Resort- The Ocean Course
- Long Cove Club
- Blackwolf Run- River Course, Meadows Valley Course
- Whistling Straits- Irish Course, Straits Course
& many more!
Course- Dye Fore
Pete Dye's last course at Casa de Campo is set in fairly dramatic terrain a few miles from Teeth of the Dog.
As such the resort is able to contrast the old world charm and beauty of Teeth with a visual smorgasbord at Dye Fore.
The front nine moves through the ups and downs, turning this way and that.
The bunkering is a real feature, and the sea views kick in to complete the picture.
The New Nine has a different setting, but is perhaps even more compelling.
Set high above a deep river canyon the holes rock and roll, teasing with lines of play over jungle chasms.
There are some exciting holes, and heaven forbid if you struck a really windy day!
We particularly loved this nine!
Notable Holes include:
Front Nine
- Hole 3, a delightful par 3 with a series of rounded bunkers protecting the right side
- Hole 5, a sharp dogleg par 4 with sea backdrop
- Hole 6, a lovely mid length par 3 set into the side of a hill
New Nine
- Hole 3, a strong par 3 over a valley
- Hole 5, a lovely drawing par 4, set high above the river.
- Hole 6, a testing longer par 3 with a long uphill carry over a yawning sea of vegetation.
Dye Fore is in my opinion the second best course at Casa de Campo behind Teeth of the Dog.
The land is really interesting- the front nine has sea backgrounds for a number of the holes, and the new nine is quite dramatic with holes set high on the cliffs over the river valley.
Any golfing visit to The Dominican Republic must include a game at Dye Fore.
