Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is known for its centuries-old architecture and a rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influences.
At its heart is the chaotic Old Quarter, where the narrow streets are roughly arranged by trade.
There are many little temples, including Bach Ma, honoring a legendary horse, plus Đồng Xuân Market, selling household goods and street food.
Its streets surge with scooters vying for right of way amid the din of constantly blaring horns, and all around layers of history reveal periods of French and Chinese occupation.
Crossing the street is a game of bluff- you need to move steadily across, and trust the traffic will flow around you.
But be wary because the footpaths are also seen as scooter thoroughfares and offer no real relief as they can come from either direction...
There are wonderful restaurants, and hotels so stay a few days and take in the unique mixture of culture and history

Halong Bay is located 170 km east of Hanoi.
The bay is famous for it's karst limestone formations and islands projecting out of the sea.
It looks spectacular!
Overnight junks are a great way to explore the area.
There are 1969 formations to see, some of which are inhabited, some with large caves which are definitely worth a visit
