History

Bowral Golf Club was established in 1901, but initially had no playing arena of its own.

It wasn't until mid 1917 that the club moved to it's current location on Kangaloon Rd and put down roots.

A new clubhouse was completed on this land in June 1919 and a nine-hole course was laid out by Club Professional Dan Soutar (who also designed Kingston Heath & Concord).

In 1920 further land was acquired and the course extended to 18 holes.

The new nine was designed by Carnegie Clark (who also designed The Australian, Royal Queensland & Moore Park).

In 1950 more land was acquired and used for the present 15th hole.

Bowral GC is a somewhat understated country course overlooked by a modest old clubhouse.

But the par 69 course is regarded as one of the best country courses in NSW

It is an easy walk in a park like setting.

Water is integral to the strategy and look on holes 1, 2, 3, 13, 15, 16 & 18 and adds strategic variety for the thinking golfer..

The tree lined fairways are green and lush, and the putting surfaces are fast and true- making a game at Bowral very pleasant indeed

Notable holes include:

- hole 1, a short par 4 with water in play at 210 metres, and OOB left (see pic top of page)

- hole 2, a short par with water carry at 180 metres from the tee

- hole 13, a picturesque short par 4 with water to negotiate at 225 metres from the tee

- hole 15, a short par where the player needs to carry a dam with the tee shot

- hole 18, a long par 4 and strong finishing hole with a water hazard at 240 metres from the tee leaving a long uphill approach in front of the clubhouse
