Diamante GC- Dunes Course

Diamante Dunes GC was designed by Davis Love the third with Paul Cowley, and opened for play in 2010.

The course is routed through huge sand dunes by the sea on the tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula
The Dunes course is part of an enormous real estate development which also includes a par 3 course, and a second 18 hole course designed by Tiger Woods (El Cardonal)

It is reputed that a 3rd 18 hole course is imminent and that it will be another Tiger course...

The third course will be very private and only accessible by members

The front nine at Diamante Dunes winds through lovely dunes land, with a nice variety of holes
The surroundings are impressive with large exposed tracts of sand, and dunes everywhere

Although the holes were soundly designed I found the green complexes got lost in the surroundings- the greens themselves were at times hard to pick up

The back nine ventures closer to the ocean, and some of the holes are more dramatic

The 12th hole is a longish uphill par 3 to a green set in the saddle of a large dune.

It really is a majestic and challenging hole.

In fact it's a fantastic golf hole!

Hole 13 is also a ripper. A snaking par 5 with expanses of sand along the left flank, and dunes to the right-  the approach to the peninsula green will certainly get the blood pumping. It’s another fantastic golf hole!

Hole 16 is a par 4 with the green right on the beach, and the short par 3 seventeenth hole also has the beach and the rolling surf as a backdrop

It is a lovely setting to play golf

Diamante Dunes is a quality course in a beautiful part of the world.

I'd go back in a heartbeat!
