Located on the southern Californian coastline near Newport Beach, The Resort at Pelican Beach boasts two Tom Fazio courses offering glorious views of the vast coastline from nearly every hole.
The Resort is first class.
Service levels are high.
Visitors can expect to be pampered!
And the accommodation, dining and resort facilities are luxurious.
The South course was built by Fazio in 1991, followed by the North course in 1993.
The North course is routed through higher ground, along ridges and over canyons- all with wonderful ocean backdrops.
Like all Fazio courses it is artfully bunkered, and a stern test of golf
The South course drops down into valleys and journeys to the coastline where holes 11-13 touch the beach.
These are world class holes!
The south course is tighter- but for me it was the more engaging of the two, and the ocean holes are a real highlight
And the double canyon carry on hole 18 to an amphitheatre green overlooked by the resort is a dramatic finish to a compelling game of golf.
Notable holes include:
hole 7- a gorgeousbeautifully bunkered par 3 with sea backdrop and water hazard along the right perimeter of the hole
hole 11- a tree lined fairway leads to a superbly bunkered green with another ocean backdrop
hole 12- this handsome par 3 runs parallel to the ocean and features some very attractive bunkering
hole 13- a unique short par 3 on the oceanfront with alternate greens, and a variety of teeing options giving very different angles to approach the all sand carries
hole 18- a dramatic long par 4 with carries over the canyons on both the tee shot and the approach. The green sits in a amphitheater surrounded by the imposing walls and structures of the Pelican Hills resort
