Black Sea Rama

is a Gary Player Signature Championship course at Cape Kaliakra in Bulgaria. Located on the northern part of the Black Sea near the town of Balchik, BSR is an easy 50 kms from the international airport at Varna.

The course first came to prominence when it was voted best new golf course in the world in 2009. It is a classic links course in the style of the famous Scottish links- but with a warm sunny climate that averages 260 sunny days a year!

Anyone travelling to Cape Kaliakra to play golf will no doubt also play Lighthouse GC, and the fabulous Thracian Cliffs. I think BSR is the perfect complement to Thracian Cliffs as it is a lovely course to walk, and more forgiving off the tee.

Unusually for a links style course the Black Knight incorporates water into the design on a number of holes, and this adds to the variety and excitement.

My favourite hole was the par 3, thirteenth hole with it's wonderful linksy feel. It was also the start of an outstanding homeward run of holes, with fourteen a ripping dogleg par 4 to a green that looks like it has been set for a hundred years it is so natural..

Holes 15 and 16 are short par 4's but could not be more different with fifteen sporting a narrow tabletop green that is difficult to hit, and sixteen with a promontory green surrounded by water.

Hole 17 is a winding par 5 with a skyline green which brings you to the Black Sea, and then the long par 3 eighteenth hole is sculpted into the cliffside setting in front of the clubhouse...

If you come to Bulgaria do not miss the opportunity to play Black Sea Rama
