Denarau Golf & Racquet Club was founded in 1993.
It was designed by Eiichi Motohashi from Pannya Planning in Japan.
The course is located on flat land adjacent to Nadi Bay.
The tree lined fairways only touch the sea on the 15th hole- but lakes and waterways are in play on every hole.
They form the course's main defence, although some strategically placed trees force golfers to think their way through the round.
When we played the mixture of palm trees and Poinciana (flame trees) proved a very attractive frame to each hole.
Due to an extended dry spell the fairways were browned off- and water levels low.
Nevertheless the course played nicely..
The tree lined fairways are generously wide, but the course can play long- so it's important to play off a suitable tee.
At 6109 metres the blue tees would be popular choice for most gentlemen golfers..
Notable Holes include:
- hole 2, a short dogleg par four with a lovely tree and water protecting the inside of the dogleg
- hole 3, a mid length all water carry par three
- hole 4, a dogleg par four with a demanding water carry tee shot. Accuracy off the tee rewards players with an open approach to a well bunkered green
- hole 11, another all water carry- this time to an enormous green with some tricky pin positions
- hole 13, a long strong par 4 with water to carry off the tee and again for the approach
- hole 15, a par five requiring a straight drive between two large strategically placed trees. Longer hitters will aspire to reach the ocean side green in two.
- hole 16, a short dogleg par 4 with a large tree on the inside of the dogleg. The green is well bunkered and demands an accurate approach.
- hole 17, a memorable mid length par three with an unusual u shaped tee and all carry tee shot.
- hole 18, the big finish is a tricky par five with two waterways to carry to reach the well bunkered green. It's a nice way to finish!
Denarau Golf & Racquet Club is well placed for accommodation as the course is literally surrounded by well known hotel chains.
