Wailea Resort on the leeward coast of south west Maui is blessed with golden beaches, and the best golfing weather on Maui. Sunshine, light breezes, and just 11 inches of rain a year sounds just too good to be true!
It really is golfing paradise.
The Resort boasts five luxury hotels, and quite a number of condominiums, spas, restaurants and lots of high end shopping.
With it's constant balmy weather, and choice of activities, Wailea has something for everyone.
Golf forms an integral part of the Wailea Resort, with three highly regarded courses, two clubhouses, and extensive practice facilities prominent.
Wailea Blue
The Blue Course at Wailea was the one that started it all.
Designed by Arthur Snyder, the course opened in 1972.
The dormant volcano, Mt Haleakala dominates Maui's skyline, and Wailea Blue is routed across her lower foothills.
'Blue' is the entry level course at Wailea, but this old lady has class.
The slope ratings may be lower than her sister courses, but 'Blue' has a quality pedigree.
The fairways are wide and welcoming but elevation changes and strategic bunkering can test the very best.
The course has hosted the LPGA's Kemper Open, and The Asahi-Kyosen Tournament
It is always beautifully maintained, and with crisp coral sand bunkers, lakes & fountains, colourful blossoms and the ever present views of the coast, it is just a lovely place to play golf- no wonder over 70% of golfers at Wailea are return golfers.
It is regarded as being ideal for higher handicappers, juniors and holiday golfers- but good enough for anyone to enjoy...
Although changes were made to the course routing when the Gold & Emerald Courses were introduced, the Blue Course has returned to it's original set up with the addition of a new Blue Clubhouse right in the centre of town.
How appropriate!
Notable holes include:
- hole 3, the hardest hole on the course is a long par 4 up and across the slope
- hole 7, a picturesque short par 3 with a gentle boomerang shaped green, and beautiful ocean backdrop
- hole 11, a par 5 with views
- hole 13, a mid length par 3 with ocean backdrop
- hole 17, a beautiful par 5 with attitude!
Any golfing stay in Maui should include time at Wailea.
Wailea Blue is the perfect entree to golf at Wailea.
The Old Lady is a perfect place to play holiday golf, but she still commands respect!
