El Desafio GC- hole 9 green
Greg Norman designed El Desafio GC which opened 9 holes for play in 2015.
Although a further 9 holes higher up the mountain is planned, as at Feb 2018 there was no clubhouse or made roads, or any other discernible further development activity.
There are however four finished homes in the estate with a further four under construction..
The Course is built high on a mountain near San Martin de los Andes in Northern Patagonia (and is neigbour to Chapelco).
It has dramatic elevation changes throughout, and all world views from the back tees.
The elevated greens are well protected by large sand belt style bunkering..
El Desafio GC- hole 7
It would be a brute to play from the back tees in any sort of wind, as long accurate carries between trees are required to hit the fairways.
The fairways are wide enough, but the high tees are exposed to the wind.
The forward tees are much more accommodating, but less spectacular!
Like so many Norman courses the shot to the green is a critical examination.
The course is well regarded in Argentina, and will surely move near the top of the rankings if and when the second nine is completed

- the downhill par 4 second hole

-the long downhill par 3 sixth hole with it's dramatic bunkering

- the par 3 ninth hole which uses a wonderful large rock formation as a background

El Desafio is a quality course in a majestic setting, and when combined with neighbour Chapelco will make the best 1-2 combo in Argentina.
Let's hope the back nine and infrastructure is completed soon..
