BRG Danang enlisted Nicklaus Design to add a second course in Danang to complement the ground breaking Greg Norman course that has been so successful for them.
The Nicklaus course opened in 2020 and was deliberately designed to offer a different look and feel to its neighbour.
While the Norman course plays through sand dunes by the sea, the Nicklaus course traverses low lying swampy terrain.
As a consequence water features throughout the course as the golfer plays over and past water on virtually every hole.
Timber bulkheads give the course a ‘Florida look’, differentiating the course from anything else in Vietnam.
It looks great, and does intimidate at times..
As with all Nicklaus course, the course will reward the thinking golfer, with hazards strategically placed to force players to make decisions on line and length,
And the course is in great condition.
Notable holes include:
- Hole 1, an in your face opening par 4 with water in play on the right all the way
- Hole 4, a long par 3 over water
Hole 7, a mid length par 4 with water left
Hole 8, a medium length par 4 with bunkers and water surrounding the green
Hole 9, another par 3 over water to a green with boarded edge
Hole 11, a longer par 3 over water! (see pic top of page)
Hole 14, a longer par 4 with diagonal carry over water which then laps the left side of the fairway for the journey
Hole 17, a par 4 with water to carry off the tee, and a boarded green approach
The Nicklaus Course at BRG Danang is a world class course, and the perfect partner for the Norman course.
The timber bulkheads are attractive, but can make different holes look ‘samey’.
Golfers should choose their tee boxes carefully as playing longer will be a test for some, given the penalty for missing targets is an instant lost ball.
