Thai Country Club is located 50 minutes from central Bangkok, and depending on traffic can be only 30 minutes from Suvarnabhumi International Airport. As such it is very conveniently located not only for those wanting to play golf around Bangkok, but also as an add on to golfing trips to Hua Hin, Phuket & Chiang Mai.
Thai CC is owned by Peninsula Hotels and prides itself on service excellence. The beautifully outfitted clubhouse has won awards, but it is the quality of the service that stands out. The dining facilties, and locker rooms are first class, making it an ideal stopping point for travellers coming or going to the airport.
The golf course was designed by Denis Griffiths and opened in 1996. The terrain is basically flat so Griffiths has used water hazards on many of the holes to provide variety with enough challenges to keep even the best players on their toes. Thai CC hosted the 1997 Asian Honda classic ( won by Tiger Woods ), the 1998 Johnny Walker, and the 2007 and 2008 Volvo Masters. So it is an established championship layout.
The course is immaculately maintained all year round and the greens are fast and true- but grain is something to be grappled with for those without experience on more tropical courses. Another skill that comes with experience is coping with the ever present bermuda grass rough.
Did I mention the water?
At Thai CC water hazards abound. You will be hitting over, around, between, and beside water hazards on many a hole. It does tend to sharpen your focus!
I liked the green complexes which have enough movement to make them interesting. They have a number of different pin positions which in some cases can change the strategy of playing the hole- I like that!
Thai CC is regarded as one of the best courses in Thailand, and Asia, and is a club with a proud and prestigious membership who pay big dollars for their membership. The every friendly caddies are amongst the best trained in Thailand. Fortunately there are a limited number of tee spots each week for travelling golfers, and we have found that it makes a delightful stopping point at the end of a trip. It is a privilege to play on the course, but after a shower and a feed one feels so much more comfortable making the short trip to the airport...
Thai Country Club is included as a preferreed course on Travelling Golfer tours to Bangkok, and as an add on for tours to Phuket, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai
We offer hosted trips from time to time for ladies, gents, and couples groups at different price points including top end spa resort accommodation. We also tailor trips for groups who do not require a host.
