Golf Club Schloss Schonborn is a 27 hole golfing complex located just half an hour from the heart of Vienna
The property at Schonborn was originally the summer residence for Friedrich Karl von Schonborn.
The Counts von Schonborn were one of the great families of Germany & Austria in their day...
Set in 104 hectares of gorgeous parkland 'the castle' at Schonborn was completed in 1717
In 1989 golf came to Schonborn when Kurt Rossknecht produced 18 holes through the woodlands inside the castle walls.
A further nine holes was added on adjacent land in 2008, giving the club 3 loops of nine holes
Each nine has a slightly different feel, but all could be described as classic parkland golf.
The front nine has a gentle slope, but the other loops are basically flat woodlands terrain.
Trees, strategically placed bunkers, and the occasional water hazard are the defence at Schonborn.
The course is nicely maintained, so if you can stay out of the trees it will just be 'a walk in the park'..
Notable holes include:
- hole 6, a longish par 4 with water in play for the approach, and castle prominent behind the green
- hole 8, a short doglegpar 4 with a lovely green setting framed by trees and bunkers
- hole 17, a mid length par four with water in play for the approach
- hole 18, a tight winding par 5 with water in play for the second shot
Schloss Schonborn is a nicely manicured parkland course with some interesting holes.
It is a pleasant place to play
Travelling Golfers heading to Vienna will enjoy a day of golf here.
