The La Cana course was designed by P. B. Dye (Paul Burke Dye) and opened 18 holes in 2001.
P. B. Dye was Pete Dye's youngest son.
The two original nines at La Cana were Tortuga and Arrecife, with the Hacienda nine added later
La Cana has not looked back since with homes, hotels and more courses making it a very attractive destination for golfing holidays.
Nearby the Corales Course is world class, and more recently another new course by Nicklaus Design at Punta Espada is something special!
La Cana GC is comprised of 3 loops of nine holes: Hacienda, Tortuga and Arrecife
Notable Holes include:
Hacienda nine
- Hole 5, a longish par 3 over water to a raised green (see pic top of page)
- Hole 6, a mid length par 4 with a tight tee shot between bunkers and dunes- followed by a water carry to a slightly convoluted green!
- Hole 7, a roly poly green on a mid length par 3
Tortuga nine
- Hole 3, a pretty all water carry par 3
- Hole 5, a short par 3 right on the beach!
- Hole 7, a short dogleg par 4 for the thinking golfer
Arrecife nine
- Hole 3, a lovely short par 3 to an almost island green
- Hole 5, a picturesque par 3 protected by grassy mounds and bunkers
- Hole 8, a strong par along the coastline to a green protected by beach, boarding and bunkers
- Hole 9, the epic par 5 finishing hole along the beach- it is a championship hole!!
The 27 holes at La Cana is a good day's golf.
It is an ideal warm up for any golfing trip to the Dominican Republic.
The real deal in this part of the country are the Corales Course and Punta Espada- both of which are "must plays" and worthy of repeat play.
