The Killeen Course at Killarney opened for play in 1972.
It was originally designed by Eddie Hackett and Billy O'Sullivan.
Golf at Killarney dates back to 1891 when the Mahoney's Point course opened.
But that course was split into two when new land was acquired.
The holes from the old course combined with new holes to form two championship courses.
Of these The Killeen Course is regarded as the championship course, and has hosted the Irish Open a number of times
Course
Killarney's Killeen Course is both picturesque and a strong test of golf.
The water holes in particular are memorable..
Notable holes include:
- hole 1, a short par 4 starter, with water very much in play right.
- hole 3, an attractive but dangerous par 3 with water very much in play
- hole 4, a demanding short par 4 with island tee, claustrophobically narrow fairway framed by trees, and water right of the green
- hole 10, a longer par 3 to an island green
- hole 18, a longer par 4 with water in play left for the journey. A championship hole!
Killarney is one of our favourite places in Ireland.
With the sightseeing, shops, music and pubs it is always a memorable stay.
And Killarney Golf Club is only minutes from the heart of town.
No wonder the club is busy!
