Querencia GC- hole 4 green
Querencia GC is a private golf club in the Los Cabos area of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico.
It was designed by Tom Fazio and opened for play in 2000
It is whispered that a second course designed by Gil Hanse is on the cards, and that will certainly lift the profile of the club.
Set back from the Sea of Cortez in the desert-like mountain terrain the course is basically routed along ridges and winds around, and over gullies. The routing is a little awkward in that it doubles back on itself at times, and is certainly a cart course because of the distance between green and tee, and some of the elevation changes in those commutes...
Querencia is a typical Fazio design in that the course is pretty- and the visuals appear a priority.
Bouganvilleas add colour to the variety of brush and cactus, and with white sand bunkers a feature throughout the course, it really is built for the camera
But the substance is there as well with well constructed golf holes and strategy rather than power required to record a score.
The front nine predominantly heads down off elevated tees towards the sea, while the back nine returns back up to the clubhouse
For me the par 5’s were a highlight as they wove their way along the ridges to some pretty decent green complexes sited in dramatic spots.
Querencia GC- hole 9
The par 3’s definitely demand you attention as well, as deep arroyos (gullies) inevitably need to be carried.
A couple of nifty short dogleg par 4’s added to the variety, and rounded off the course nicely.
Notable holes were:
- the short dog leg par 4 third hole
Querencia GC- hole 3
- the dramatic par 5 fourth hole with peninsula green
- the all carry par 3 eighth hole
Querencia GC- hole 8
- the longer par 3 fourteeenth hole
Querencia GC- hole 14
- the rolling par 5 fifteenth hole
- the short tricky par 4 seventeenth hole
Querencia GC- hole 17
Querencia is a really nice course in a beautiful setting
