Join us as we journey to Narooma, on NSW's Sapphire Coast, in Australia
Narooma is a delightful course which travelse through a variety of terrains.
The first six holes traverse spectacular clifftops with links like holes enhanced by dramatic tee and green locations.
From there the course moves through a number of low lying holes abutting tidal lakes.
The bunkering on these holes is somewhat reminscent of The Melbourne Sandbelt.
They are good strategic holes, tesing and attractive.
And then the course changes up again and takes you into the hills and typical Aussie bush- before finishing on the cliffsw again at the final hole.
There are some special holes:
- hole 2 is a strong par 4 which plays from an extremely elevated tee down along and over the cliffs leaving an approach to a green perched on the cliff edge.
- hole 8 is a short par 4 in the lowlands which incorporates a tee shot over the tidal river to a beautifully bunkered hole that would fit nicely into, say, Woodlands in the Melbourne Sandbelt..
- holes 15 is also a classy short par 4. It is a 'Cape hole' with the tee shot over the tidal lake to a fairway running at a diagonal (to the tee). Bite off as much as you dare!
But the third hole will always be 'the signature hole'.
Narooma came to fame in the 1980's with a Paul Hogan commercial filmed on the 3rd hole, which then became known as 'Hogan's Hole'.
It certainly is a spectacular hole with the tee on one side of a rocky cove, and the green on the other.
In between, a hundred feet or more below lies the heaving Pacific Ocean.
Add a little wind, mix it all around- and you have the potential for some excitement in your round!
Everyone should stop and take a photo with the green and cave below as a background.
