The Courses
New South Wales
The New South Wales Golf Clubis a links style golf course situated on the rugged cliffs in La Perouse, a suburb of Sydney. It was designed by the famous golf course architect Alister McKenzie in December 1926. Several holes overlooks the Tasman Sea and Botany Bay and it regularly rates in the top 50 golf courses in the world. It is a private members club with limited access to the public.
Royal Melbourne West
Royal Melbourne's two courses, the East Course and the West Course, are each ranked amongst the best in the world. Royal Melbourne has hosted numerous national and international events, most famously the 1959 Canada Cup, and the 1970 World Cup. It was selected by the PGA Tour to hold the Presidents Cup for the first time outside the United States in December 1998 and again in 2011. The Club will also host the Presidents Cup again in 2019. The West course is generally regarded as the best course in Australia and Top 10 in the World.
Kingston Heath
Kingston Heath has a ranking of 2 in Australia and 21 in the world, making it not only one of Australia's, but also one of the world's leading golf clubs. The 18 holes were built on only 50 hectares (most courses in the modern era are built on over 100 hectares), it is perfectly manicured and its bunkering and clever use of dips and hollows visually fools the non-observant golfer. If you wildly deviate from the fairway, the rough (comprising long grass, tea- tree and sandy scrapes) will test your ability to get the ball back into play.
Metropolitan
Metropolitan GC is known as the best conditioned course in Australia, and one of the best in the world - comparisons have even been made with Augusta National because of the magnificent carpet of Santa Ana couch fairways, and immaculate presentation of bunkers and greens.
But Metro has more to offer than its wonderful presentation. It is a joy to play, and demands a golfer put some thought into his game. The fairways are wide, but the distinctive clean edged bunkering is everywhere. Fairway bunkers push you one way off the tee, and then challenge you again with approaches to greens amply protected by more sand.
The new clubhouse at Metro is superb, and the service levels for visitors and members are world class. To date Metropolitan has hosted 7 Australian Opens, 5 Australian PGA's, 5 Australian Amateur Championships, and 10 other professional tournaments of note. A joy to play.
Victoria
The Victoria Golf Club is acclaimed by golfers the world over for its fine hospitality and superb world championship course. It is situated in the heart of Melbourne's rolling sandbelt country in the beach side suburb of Cheltenham and offers a sporting experience on par with the world’s best. The beautifully landscaped par 72 course is designed to challenge both the amateur and professional golfers. The club has a wonderful history of championship golf having hosted Australian Opens, Ladies Australian Opens, and Australian Masters events, and is generally regarded one of the top 100 courses in the world.
The National
The National is a private club which boasts 3 world class courses. The Old Course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, The Moonah designed by Greg Norman amd the newly remodelled Gunnamatta Course designed by Tom Doak. The Old Course is one of the true tests of golf especially if the wind is up. Strategic ball positioning is a must. The greens are large and tiered with unsurpassed ocean views. The Moonah Course is a links course built on breathtaking coastal dune land with indigenous trees scattered throughout its rugged rolling hills. Rated 12 in Australia it is a strong test of golf. The Gunnamatta opens for play in Spring 2019 and promises to be a challenging but fair test of golf that takes advantage of the ocean views and rolling dunes. The state-of-the-art Clubhouse is surrounded by stunning wild vegetation and magnificent views of the sea.
