Course Review
The History
The Lindisfarne GC was initially formed in 1925 on Hobart's eastern shore. It was later acquired by the state government in 1965 as part of demand for suburban land. It took 3 years, but a new site for the club was found in 1968 overlooking Barilla Bay.
The new course was designed by Al Howard on a site that was undeniably spectacular and challenging.
Set on a headland overlooking Barilla Bay the course offers panoramic views and a test for all golfers!
The Course
From the beginning the new course was well received with critics rating it world class (according to Golf magazine). However Howard was reported to say 'I feel I just capitalised on the natural grandeur of the setting'
Indeed he did!
Tasmania GC is both picturesque and challenging. And the famed 12th hole is one of Australia's great holes.
With 7 Mile Beach now open near Hobart airport golfers are flocking to play- and Tasmania Golf Club is only minutes away from both.
It makes for a great golfing combo!!

Notable Holes
Hole 2, Par 3 - a downhill hole to a green with a backdrop of water. It's a beauty. With the wind blowing, it can be a challenge. (see photo top of page)
Hole 10, par 4 - a short severely downhill par 4 with a green partially hidden by gum trees. Repeat plays will inevitably turn this into a birdie hole! see photo below
Hole 12, par 5 - with magnificent views and exposure to both winds and water the 12th is one of the most demanding holes anywhere- and one of the most picturesque! see photo below

Hole 13, par 4 - a challenging par 4 back up the the same peninsula the 12th came down! Again the water is a factor.
