History

The Inverness Club was originally formed in Toledo in 1903.

But it took until 1916 before the club employed Donald Ross to design the championship golf course which opened for play in 1918.

It successfully hosted the Ohio Open in 1919 and then the U.S. Open in 1920.

Further U.S. Opens followed in 1931, 1957, and 1979.

Inverness also hosted the U.S, PGA in 1986 and 1993- and the Solheim Cup in 2021.

In 2016 and 2024 architect Andrew Green successfully renovated the course to ensure it was suitable for championship golf in the modern era.

We had a great day playing Inverness.

We had a happy group and that always helps!

Heather and I played with two young trainee professionals and two caddies not much younger.

We enjoyed the course, the company and the weather!

And set a cracking pace.. (which always helps)

We have played quite a number of Donald Ross courses now.

At Inverness some of the lines of play were not obvious to me at times.

It is always disappointing to hit a good shot in the wrong place, line or length!!

Still that is all part of the joy of playing a good course for the first time.

Inverness is a championship course and members woud get great joy out of working out those angles ..

It is a quality course.
