7 Mile Beach
7 Mile Beach
7 Mile opened for limited play on the 4th December 2025, so it is a very young course that is still growing in.
We were lucky to play two rounds in perfect weather. This allowed us to properly assess the course and while I was not overly enthused after one round, by the end of round two I was right into it.
There is a lot of movement in the playing surfaces, both in fairway and green. The big ups and down mean there are a number of blind shots - it is easy to play the wrong line. However a couple of rounds in and you know the lines of play to open up the flags.
The greens have a lot of movement and are often raised - the first day out we all thought it was difficult.
Being able to spin and stop a pitch shot would be a big advantage, as the greens don’t hold the ball easily so perhaps a bump ’n' run onto the green with a 7 iron would work better for most golfers.
Half way around my second round I learned to hit away from flags where necessary, allowing the ball to access ramps within the greens and finish closer to the pin. My group had a great time from there on, seeing the approach go up and down to end near the flag.
It is a pinball version of golf’s short game.
7 Mile’s short game demands are unlike any of the better courses in Australia, and will not suit everyone - but it is refreshingly different.Once players relax and play for the assistance of the roll, they may well get addicted. It is surely a lot of fun for those who can relax and go with the flow.
Our 2nd round was perhaps the most fun round I have experienced this year - I will go back in March to see how it plays with fairways and greens in pristine condition.
Course Condition Update 18/12/25 :The property has suffered from lack of water, and while the playing surfaces are generally okay, it is a bit rough with dry patches here and there. Work continues - later this week they will ship in water with local government help.
That will keep things alive until their system is upgraded to pump in water in the months ahead.
Then they can get back to finish growing in the course.
