Durness GC

Durness was established in 1988 by three golfing enthusiasts.

They designed the course as essentially a nine holer, but added another tee on each hole to allow 18 holes of golf.

The course occupies a wonderful site for golf with rolling sandhills, ocean clifftops and a central lake.

Durness is a unique golfing experience.

And that last golf hole really is something special..

Notable holes include: 

- hole 4/13, a short uphill par 4 with a lovely bowl green

- hole 6/15, a teasing par 5 around a lake where the lines of play demand accuracy for all three shots for any success.

- hole 7/16, a strong uphill par 3

- hole 8/17, a downhill par 4 to a picturesque green on the water's edge

-  hole 9/18, a spectacular par 3 with a clifftop tee and testing iron over the heaving ocean to the clifftop green- it's an all world hole!

Durness is reasonably remote tucked away in Scotland's north.

It takes an effort to get there!

So many of the roads in the area are just one car wide..

But passing pullover areas allow cautious two way traffic.

It takes some getting used to, but Durness is worth the effort!
