Course Review

Brora Golf Club was founded in 1891 as a nine hole course.

It was later extended to 18 holes by John Sutherland.J.H.Taylor made further changes, and then James Braid was commissioned to redesign the course in 1923. A century later, little has changed.

The land at Brora is perfect for golf.  The links is right on the coast in low lying dunes. The sea views are a feature but when the weather comes in there is nowhere to hide.

It is an out and back course with the front nine hugging the coastline as it goes out.

Brora is links golf from yesteryear. The tumbling dunes by the sea are perfect for golf, and the holes are natural to the extreme. The fairways have that natural rumple and there are some interesting green sites. Burns snake through the site adding interest and intrigue. The conditioning of the course does not try to compete with the championship courses, but rather stays true to itself. It is a rustic local course of great character.

Hole 18 (Home hole) - a dramatic longer par 3 over a dip to a raised green in front of the clubhouse.

 It is a tough finish!
