Colorado GC

It was 26 degrees and sunny with a gentle zephyr in Denver Colorado on Sunday .
I braved the freeway system for about 40 minutes south to Parker where I eventually found the Colorado GC - unfortunately not quite where the GPS thought it should be!

Colorado GC is a recent Coore Crenshaw course  .
Of there courses so far I have played Sand Hills , and Friar's Head , and seen what Bill Coore did at Stolen Farm - so I had high expectations ...

In June this year the club held the Senior US PGA , won by Tom Lehman from Freddie Couples , and it will host the Solheim cup in 2012 .
The club has hit some financial trouble - it is a big project with 170 very expensive building lots as well as the course and infrastructure
The clubhouse looks nearly finished - it is as big as a whole city block - but is apparently just $20 million short of being completed .
It looks like a group of very wealthy members will buy out the course , not the land , and finish everything .
Then it will be something!

The 9th hole at CGC with some of the clubhouse showing..

I was fortunate today to play with Michael Kang who is a musician . His band is called the String Cheese Incident , and is popular all over the world ( look him up on you tube )
Apparently his group is more of a stage group than recording artists...
He plays quite well - he says off a 3 handicap ( not in Aussie ) and we had a good time

The course was every bit as interesting as the other Coore Crenshaw courses I have played with a succession of visually dramatic , yet strategic holes
Beautiful par 3's at all lengths.
.
The short par 3 2nd hole at CGC

Great short par 4's such as the 3rd where you take as much as you can off the hazard on the tee shot , and then have to carry another hazard into the green...

The short par 4 3rd hole at CGC

And the par 5's were fascinating - split fairways , gullies to carry , cross bunkering - just generally fun to play.

The downhill par 5 15th hole at CGC with creek in front of green( easy birdie)

This is the sort of course I could play every day . It is in great nick - the greens had a bit of movement AND were running at 11.5 on the stimp meter..
That's seriously quick , but a lot of fun!
And quicker than the US Senior PGA .

Loved it!
