This is a course that was not originally on my "hit list" , but we are very pleased to have played it .
The Berkshire has 2 outstanding courses - the Red and the Blue , designed by Herbert Fowler on land cleared through virgin forest during WW1 for military manoeuvres .
We played the blue course , and it was a real joy to play . Old Herbert really new his stuff - it was notable that Sunningdale had a number of unseen hazards which is not my preference - even on such a wonderful course - but at The Berkshire Mr Fowler keeps your interest throughout with a strategic and varied layout - all before your eyes
And it's like walking in a big botanic garden!
And 75 of the beater makes it all that much better.
