Mill Farm Millbrook, Coronet Course
Millbrook Resort is one of New Zealand's best known and most successful golfing resorts.
It regularly hosts the New Zealand Open Championship.
Millbrook was conceived by Mr Eiichi Ishii and opened for business in 1933.
The Ishii family still own Millbrook.
Millbrook offers luxurious accommodation for visitors and residents.
Residents or guests can enjoy the spa, fine dining, and health and fitness centre.
Millbrook had been operating with 27 holes of golf ( 3 nines) for the last twenty years.
Recently they opened up a new nine holes which has been integrated with exisiting holes from the Remarkables nine to form the new Coronet 18 holes course.
Architects Scott MacPherson and Greg Turner have done a magnificent job routing the new holes through the dramatic high ground of the Remarkable Mountains.
Millbrook Resort- Coronet Course- hole 13
The new holes high in the Remarkables Mountains are quite magnificent, and exciting to play!
The first 5 holes ( and the last few) were part of the former Remarkables nine and have been tweaked a little to fit with the new look.
But golfers will certainly sit up and take notice from hole 6 on.
These holes traverse dramatic landscapes- I found them quite uplifting!
It is certainly a beautiful part of the world.
Hats off to the architects who have produced quality golf holes without compromising the landscape.
Notable Holes include:
- hole 6, a "Remarkable" par 3, cut out of the mountain
Millbrook Coronet Course hole 6
- hole 7, a lovely par four in the heart of the mountains.

- hole 9, a strong dogleg par 4 in a beautiful mountain setting. But it is the water hazard that dominates a golfers strategy off the tee, and subsequent lines of play.

- hole 11, a magnificent par 5 through a valley high in the mountains- seemingly a couple of swanky new homes are the only signs of civilisation..
Millbrook Resort- Coronet Course- hole 11
- hole 12, a longer more exposed par 3 which demands a good strike.
- hole 13, a magnificent short downhill par 4 that can be played so many ways! A world class hole! ( see pic above in intro)
Millbrook Resort- Coronet Course- hole 12
- hole 16, an understated yet attractive par 3
- hole 18, an epic par 5 finish with a water carry to the final green where the surrounding trees and buildings form a dramatic ampitheatre..
