Ratho Farm
Ratho Farm is a historic Golf Links & Resort located 80kms north of Hobart Airport in Tasmania. This unique course dates back to 1822, making it Australia's oldest golf course.
It has been restored, renovated and expanded since that time, and is now a challenging and intriguing 18 hole golf course with hazards such as farm fences, sheep yards, hedges, bunkers, streams and sheep! The golf course architects Mogford & Crafter did significant restoration work on the course in 2017, bringing back 'lost' holes and designing four new holes (15-18), whilst balancing the course's historic links-style heritage with modern challenges. The course will be like no other course you have ever played - unless you have visited the remote corners of Scotland and Wales with your golf clubs.

7-Mile Beach - South Course
There is much excitment about the upcoming opening of a world class course near Hobart Airport, namely 7-Mile Beach. We have jumped in and reserved tee times on the morning of the 12th March for Beanie competitors. (Please note: there are very limited tee times available as the course is only open for play in the mornings)
7-Mile Beach will officially open the South Course on the 4th December 2025. Situated in coastal dunes near Hobart airport, it is a pure links course that has been 5 years in the making. The designers are Mike Clayton & Mike DeVries (of Cape Wickham fame) who are both very passionate about this project. The course has created a lot of interest around the world and everyone involved in golf (including us) are very excited to see just how good this course is.
Take this opportunity to experience pure links golf in Tasmania.
"Seven Mile Beach South has just 37 bunkers. This isn’t minimalism for its own sake – it’s a fundamental rethinking of what makes golf interesting.
With wall-to-wall fescue to work with, short grass surrounds every green. There are multiple angles into every hole. Recovery shots that reward imagination over repetition. This is golf where the ground itself provides the challenge, where creativity beats convention, where thinking beats force.
The result? A course that’s more playable for everyone, yet endlessly complex for those who seek it."

Tasmania & Royal Hobart Golf Courses
Extend your stay in the Hobart region and play these two lovely courses. Both are private courses, but we have managed to reserve some tee times for Beanie Participants.
Tasmania is a very picturesque course, with dramatic holes and elevation changes. The 2nd hole is particularly memorable, playing out to a peninsula.
Royal Hobart is conveniently located near the Hobart airport, right near 7-Mile Beach. A natural sand based course, it has over 80 fairway and greenside bunkers which are integral to the strategy of the course.

The Charity - a worthy cause
Since 2005 The Travelling Golfer has been running a Charity Golf Tournament for the benefit of Breast Cancer Research.

Each year our happy group of golfers gather to compete for the trophy, have a great time, and along the way have managed to contribute significant funding towards Breast Cancer Research conducted by Professor Robin Anderson & her team at ONJ Cancer Research Institute.
With the money raised we have funded the purchase of a microscope, and the ongoing employment of vital researchers.
Professor Robin Anderson is the Head of the 'Metastasis Research Laboratory' at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute. It is Robin's team we are committed to assisting.

Their research work is aimed at reducing deaths from breast cancer. These deaths are largely due to the development of secondary breast cancer and its metastatic spread. Breast cancer is noted for the long time between diagnosis of the primary cancer and development of secondary cancers, which can cause ongoing anxiety for patients fearing a recurrence. They are investigating how tumour cells can disseminate from the primary tumour and remain alive but clinically undetectable for many years, and how they start expanding into life-threatening cancers in some patients. They are seeking therapies that prevent the expansion of these dormant cancer cells into new tumours. For more information on their vital research work visit: ONJ Metastasis Research Laboratory
