Western Gailes GC

Western Gailes Golf Club dates from 1897 and is considered one of the great championship links courses of Scotland.

It is a classic links course routed through rolling sand dunes, with meandering burns, undulating fairways and sea breezes.

The old clubhouse with sea views adds to the aura.

It is regarded by many as a 'hidden gem of Scottish golf'

The front nine is classic links land with fairways winding through endless dunes.

Natural green sites are complimented by well placed and natural looking bunkers.

The back nine opens up a bit with a number of tees adjacent to the beach.

While still good golf it perhaps does not quite reach the quality of the front nine..

Notable Holes include:

- hole 1 (Station), a short par 4 through some dramatic dunes. Prior knowledge about line off the tee is 'gold'.

- hole 2 (Railway), a longer par 4 with a roly poly fairway, bunkers and longer grass. It's a good hole.

- hole 3 (Arran), a strong par 4 through low lying dunes and bunkers

- hole 4 (Irvine), a longer par where staying out of the bunkers is vital!
