"I recently participated in what I can only describe as a once in a lifetime golf trip. Having turned 50 this year, I was looking to celebrate this milestone in grand style. Several members of the club I play in here in the USA suggested that I consider going to Scotland to play golf. One of the members had mentioned that he, over the years, had played at several of the courses privileged enough to host The Open Championship. I went to the web and typed in a search for a tour company which would offer such an opportunity. Serendipitously, I came upon The Traveling Golfer. After a brief perusal of their website, I realized that I had found exactly what I was looking for. After filling out the form online, I was contacted by Rory Wood and instantly impressed about his organization and plan for this trip. My only responsibility was to arrive in Liverpool at the beginning of the trip. After that, Rory took care of the rest. The accommodations were first class, the itinerary well organized, and the golf . . . well, that speaks for itself. I did not know anyone participating in this trip prior to arrival in Liverpool. As it turns out, I was the only non-Australian in the group. Rory and the rest of the participants could not have made me feel more welcome, or as they would like to say, “one of the mates.” I now have made lifelong friends and I look forward to meeting up with them again. To have played at every single golf course that has hosted the Open Championship, save one, is an experience I will never forget.
